PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Vans x Parks Project collaboration was a high profile Special Make Up (SMU) project that consisted of adults, kids, customs shoes and multiple apparel products. Working with Vans’ SMU Footwear Design and Product team and the Parks Project crew to develop a line made for the everyday adventure. Custom Typography + Illustration

Parks Projects has a whimsical, hand done visual style which we wanted to capture in the typography and illustration used on our designs. I created two sets of hand lettered typefaces for the main text and sub text appearing in patterns and designed various sets of icons, characters and illustrations for both footwear and apparel.

Adults

Unisex adult shoes consisted of six designs and styles; Ultrarange, Authentic, OldSkool, Sk8-Hi and Classic Slip On (left to right). Developing a custom typeface to add as details to shoes with Parks Project language that represented their “Leave It Better Than You Found It” mission. Custom laces, illustrations, tie dye material, eyelets, embroidery, labels and high density printing were all product development methods used to achieve an elevated line.

Kids

Unisex kids and toddler shoes consisted of four designs and styles; Classic Slip On, OldSkool Velcro, Sk8-Hi Velcro and Ultrarange (left to right). We took the same designs in the adults shoes and brought them down to kids with the addition of one fully illustrated shoe (Sk8-Hi). Some color pops and kid-friendly variations were added to separate the this line from the adult shoes.

Customs

Parks Projects separates well-known parks into regions; southwest, northwest, northeast and southeast. I created four unique patterns for each region highlighting the different parks, their features and iconic landmarks. We chose to add three additional prints I designed with various illustrations and iconography to complete the customs pack.
